Hello all,
With your permission Guy?
For those who are also members of P3U and wonder why it's down, I'm afraid it's gone. It may come back up for a short while to say goodbye, but that'll be it. Finished.
I got this direct from Action this morning.

Hi Dave
Any reason why??? That's really bad news and there is so much information that is stored on that site too!!
Surely to goodness it cannot be a hosting problem..the ads alone should have easily paid for hosting costs. I know that my own forum easily pays for ALL my web hosting with a simple strip of Google ads!!
Some feedback would be useful here from Guy who (as far as I know) was the P3CCD original creator. As far as I know (Guy can correct me here) the domain is owned by camcorderuser.com. Maybe users can be directed somewhere else???

Hi Chris,
I don't know why and I'm not sure Al does either, but it has been dumped by the owners along with SDHVinfo and some other sites. He came up for air from what has been bogging him down this last few days to post a reply to the birthday wishes, he'd asked me to post as an interim measure, to find it gone. He tried to find out what was wrong and this was it!
As you say, it's a great shame, so many years build-up of useful information to be lost to us and a community scattered to the wind.
But Hey Ho, we have CCU.net (thanks Guy!) and there are others, so I guess we'll just have to soldier on without P3U. Maybe a few more will come here, let's hope so!

(I am sure Guy won't mind us discussing P3U here? It was a blow when he left, although CCU has provided us with a worthy complementary forum, with its own distinctive style.)
This is really sad news, coming as it does totally out of the blue. The hole in the web was very obvious yesterday, but the thought of P3U having closed never crossed my mind. As Dave says, such a waste of a fund of knowledge and so many good friends separated (at least for the moment!).
I had recently wondered, in a post, how many forums we visit; personally, I have (had) several, although I am (was) active on only two - now it's one. Could someone tell me when P3U started?
So, farewell to the friends we have lost. I too hope that some of them will migrate here to CCU.
P3U RIP

A few years ago, when I bought my first camcorder, I found Pana3ccd's forum and was elated.
I found tons of useful information in the active threads as well as through the search function. I also noticed that a man named Guy Bruner had his finger on the pulse of what we were all interested in.
When the announcement came about a new forum I followed Guy over to CamcorderUser. It is always my first stop for information and I post 90% of my commentaries/responses here.
Yes, I look at other forums daily, but this forum is what I consider my home.
It would be nice, as a service to their loyal forum members, if they post a link something like this for a couple of weeks:
"Pana3CCDUser is closing (for whatever reason). We thank you for your support. We respectfully refer you to
http://www.CamcorderUser.Net
for current postings and up to date information, advice and assistance for the camcorder enthusiast."

Hi Tom
Maybe this is the full circle?
Guy was the main 'guru' at Pana3ccd and there was many tears when he left!! Hopefully all the important Pana3CCD users will now migrate here and Guy's expertise!!
I guess the reason was financial as I cannot see any other reason why they would dump such a valuable resource ... I was guided by many, many of Guy's valuable posts there!! I have been a Panny user since 1980 ..yes you read right!! My first camera was a Saticon tube WVP100 camera with a remote VHSC recorder!! Having a Panasonic related forum was pretty important to me too!!

Well, I'm sorry to hear P3U and SonyHDVInfo are closed. But, I'm not surprised. They were losing money or barely breaking even when I left over two years ago. We started it in September 2004 just after the GS400 was released. I have not been on the forum in months and months. The forum software dates from around 2001 and was not going to be updated. It is disappointing but I'm sure it was a business decision. If I had a copy of the database, I could merge it with CCU.net.
Everyone from P3U is welcome here. I do hope they come and join us. Please invite all your friends, colleagues and acquaintances to join us.

Hmmmm!
So they up and pulled the plug with no notice to its over 10,000 members. Could be any one of a number of factors. Sure seems they would have the integrity to at least send notice to members even if they gave no reason for the close. But from what I've heard in the past, the action is typical of the owner's attitude.
It was a very good forum and provided a wealth of information and resources for members and non-member visitors. I am appreciative of the benefits I derived from the site. But, we all knew it would come to an end at some point. The way it was done, however, is a sad statement about the site's registered owner, namely, camcorderinfo/ Robin Liss (according to the information obtained from whois.com). Shame on you Robin for thinking so little of the membership that you pulled the plug without any notice.
But the closing might be a good thing for this forum. Hopefully, those who were members there will head on over here.

Like everyone else, I am surprised to see it go away as it did.
But, anyone who has been following it as of late, pretty much had to see if coming.
I am not sure if it is a maturing of the Internet, or a change in how people interact with it, but Pana3CCD and several other boards I frequent have been very quiet, compared to a couple years ago.
In a recent Dreamwever project I ran into a few smaller problems that I needed help with. One turned out to be a fluke CSS issue the forum Mod had never seen before...something unique. The others, I found the answers I needed via google searches, so there was no need to participate in a discussion to gain the information I needed. Often times in my google searches, forum threads are linked to in the results, which might be why open discussions on many have decreased. There has to be a time when almost every question is asked, isn't there
Well Guy.... you had better add a couple of new topic categories now. One I can think of would be "Peter's Christmas Gift" as that was topic of several threads and quite a few posts on PanaCCD.

Keep an eye on memberships for this site now. I'm predicting a massive flood of newcomers!
I haven't been at p3u for a hell of a long time. I become uncomfortable over there and got pi**ed off with it, so I simply left never to return. This place is much cosier!
I do thank the P3U though because its where I got my roots from to get into the video field but in the end we just grew apart.

From what I understand, the shutdown was not something that could be easily controlled. I know that P3U is a significant contribution to the hobbyist and pro community. Let's stay positive about that. Perhaps something can be worked out to let the members there have an outlet. Things may yet work out. Stay positive.

One further snippet of information, the closures were due to "limited resources".
Let's hope Guy is right.

Hi Dave
Yep, that's what Action told me...they are hoping that users will migrate to CCF but I would much rather see them here with Guy!!! Watch out Guy your membership will hopefully get a big boost soon!!!
I wonder if there is any way to contact the rest of the 'regulars' from Pana3CCD and invite them here...no offence, but I don't really like CCF much!!!
