Video of Puppies being born.
« on: February 07, 2012, 12:45:11 PM »
Hi,
I have a little dog a Blue Yorkshire terrier, we mated her on the 12 December and again the next day on the 13th, according to the vet she could have the pups anytime 8 Feb (tomorrow) until the 12th. she had a scan 2 weeks ago and there are 5 or possible 6 healthy pups.
My thoughts was to video the pups being born, I´ve charged up the batteries and got the camera prepared, last night I left the camera on the tripod near her all night so she would get used to the idea.

I have to decide what to use the 400 or 550d or both.

Has anybody got any tips, or do´s and don'ts

Good idea Barry, that would be a site to see. I guess the most important thing here is that she is not to freaked out by having all the attention with the cameras on her. I await to here the good news!

Hey Barry
You DO know that any good wildlife (and domestic animal) videographer has to spend hours, days or months waiting to capture the perfect moment..you had better sleep with one eye open just in case she decides to go into labour at 2am one morning!!!
Hope all goes well!!!

Thanks Guy´s,
I know it won´t be a David Attenborough film but I will do my best, yes Chris I might even do some narragation.
If it´s in the night, which the vet say more than likely it will be, I don´t know what I should do about lighting, like Shaun say´s I don´t want to freak her out, although she trusts me immensely and we have a special bond, I don´t want any problems.

Sounds like a great project Barry; best of luck with it.
It also reminds me of a very bad joke (yes, it's a "Dad" joke..)

Vet called to a delivery at a farmhouse for a pig. Taking place in the barn.
Vet - to farmer - "Can you bring the light a bit closer?
Farmer brings the lantern closer.
"Ah, here's one!"
"A bit closer with the light!"
"Yes, another one!"
"Closer with that light!"
"And another one"
(and so on)
Farmer - "Ah doc - do you think the light's attracting them?"

Hi Ron, your joke made me smile,  Brian´s right the old ones are the best and you´ve given me some idea´s.
I can´t believe now everyday my dog  Mousy is getting bigger and bigger she was 2 1/2 kilos before getting mated now she´s almost 5 1/2 kilos. I should rename her to Elefanty.
she had another scan Wednesday afternoon and all is ready for birth, the vet said 24 hours before she gives birth she will stop eating then 12 hours before very restless so far today she had her breakfast, so it looks like over the weekend which is better for me.

Hi again,
Well Mousy gave birth to 5 puppies Tuesday morning, Valentine´s day,  I was just ready leaving for work about 8.45 when she was acting strange. I called the office to tell them I´m not coming in, by 1.15 all was delivered, I waited longer to see if anymore came.
I did video the births it was 2 hours of tape, the bits in between where nothing much was happening I missed out.
down loaded it yesterday to my computer, I dont know why but both tapes came as one long clip, even though I know I clicked the ¨separate the events¨ clip, and now it won´t transfer to my external  HD so I can take it home to edit. it say the file are too large to transfer, looks like I´m going to have to down load again.
